KBK Insurance Group - Celebrating Over 25 Years

In 1990, Les Murray and his son, Ken of Harahan, Louisiana leveraged their insurance backgrounds, savings and, especially their joint experience of building a start-up retail agency to found KBK Insurance Group.   After a number of years with Royal Globe Insurance, Les Murray enjoyed a 15 year career at Fireman’s Fund.  In 1985, he and his son, Ken, created a retail insurance agency called Louisiana Risk Managers (LRM).   In five years, they had built a successful retail operation as well as a specialty insurance program exclusively for commercial tow truck operators.

In 1990, they sold the retail agency business and launched KBK with their established tow truck book of business.  In the early 1990’s very few commercial auto insurance agencies had KBK’s very specialized underwriting experience in this auto segment.  KBK was able to partner with a an A.M. Best “A” rated insurance carrier, to grow their flagship two truck program.

In 1993, Ken’s brothers, Brett and Kyle, joined the family insurance operation that had be named after the three brothers, KBK Insurance.  As a pioneer in providing in-house underwriting, KBK was able to function as a tow truck “program manager” yielding a higher carrier partner fee for marketing, underwriting and binding authority for the tow truck operator business where KBK had demonstrated expertise since 1985.

The Company built up a large and loyal tow truck business before venturing into used car dealers program in 1997.  Two years later, in 1999, KBK added a body shop/repair and used truck dealers insurance underwriting followed by the unique auto dismantling business in 2004.  Its newest specialty insurance program introduced in 2018 adds coverage for “new truck dealers”.

The company has established a national reputation as an extremely well-run and successful provider of commercial auto insurance products and services. The Murray brothers are often asked to sum up their business philosophy.   Their consistent comment is: “We believe in traditional family values and a strong work ethic.  Our seasoned staff is experienced and dedicated to the highest standards of customer service.  Collectively, the KBK team strives to exceed expectations, every day!”
